ONE FROM THE RIVERSIDE COUNTY TRANSPORTA COMMISSION.

JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER COMMISSION GOING ON, EVERYONE IS TIGHTENING THEIR BELTS.

BUT AT THE SAME TIME, THE COMMISSION HAS WENT BACK AND LOOKED AT THE FINANCES AND ACTUALLY THINGS ARE A LITTLE BIT MORE POSITIVE THAN INITIALLY THOUGHT.

ANYHOW, WE KNOW THAT WE ARE NOT GOING TO G TEMPORARY TRAIN PLATFORM IN THE CITY OF INDIO SO FUNDS ALLOCATED FOR THAT WILL BE SPENT ELSEWHERE.

BUT ON A POSITIVE NOTE $1 MILLION OF THAT WILL GO TO THE STUDY OF RAIL TRACK COMING IN THE CITY OF INDIO AND THROUGH THE PASS.

AT THE SAME TIME YOU CAN'T PUT A NUMBER ON COMMUNICATION IN AN EMERGENCY SO THESE THINGS ARE WELL THOUGHT OUT AND PLANNED SO THAT IS A POSSIBILITY.

SO THERE ARE SO MANY THINGS THAT WE ARE LOOKING AT ALONG WITH THE SPORTS PARK.

SO WE ARE GOING TO BE ASKING MORE FOLKS OUT THERE TO GET SOME SPONSORSHIP.

MARTHA'S VILLAGE AND KITCHEN WITH THE OTHER ORGANIZATIONS SUCH AS THE FINE FOOD BANK AND CBRM TAKE CARE OF SO MANY PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY.

I KNOW WE WORK ON SO MANY FACETS AS IT PERT HOMELESSNESS AND GETTING PEOPLE FED AND KEEPING PEOPLE IN THEIR HOMES, ESPECIALLY NOW IN THIS PANDEMIC.

AND MARTHA'S HAS LOST SOME OF THEIR SPONSORS BECAUSE FOLKS ARE NOT IN THE COMMUNITY.

JOE WALLACE WAS THAT THE MEDIAN HOME FOR SALE IN THE VALLEY NOW COSTS $510,000.

SO HE HAS BEEN ESTIMATING THAT THE HOUSIN AFFORDABILITY INDEX POST-COVID, THEY ARE SEEING NOW IT IS DECREASING.

THE AFFORDABILITY IS DECREASING FOR THE RE IN THE VALLEY.

SO LAST YEAR INDIO WAS AT A SCORE OF 93.

WHEREAS NOW WE ARE AT A SCORE OF 166.

SO THIS MEANS THAT THE AVERAGE FAMILY WOR INDIO WOULD NEED 66% RAISE TO BE ABLE TO PURCHASE THE AVERAGE PRICED HOME IN INDIO.

SO AS WE HAVE BEEN PREDICTING FOR A LONG WE ARE SEEING THE HOUSING STOCK BOUGHT UP FROM PEOPLE WHO ARE COMING IN FROM BIGGER CITIES LOOKING FOR CHEAPER RENT ESPECIALLY NOW SO MANY PEOP REMOTELY.

THEY ARE ABLE TO PAY HIGHER PRICES FOR THE HOMES SO THE LOCAL FAMILIES ARE BEING OUT-BID FOR A LOT OF HOMES THAT COME ON THE MARKET.

SOME OF THIS IS ALSO DUE TO THE PROPERTIES PURCHASED FOR THE COMMERCIAL USE AS THE RENTALS.

SO MY QUESTION TO ALL OF US AGAIN IS HOW ARE WE GOING TO MITIGATE THESE INCREASES IN RENT AND HOUSING PRICES SO THAT WE ARE NOT OUR LONG-TIME RESIDENTS WHO HAVE HELPED US BUILD UP THIS CITY? THE NUMBERS ARE NOT SUSTAINABLE.

IF WE CONTINUE, WE WILL SEE FAMILIES THAT CAN'T AFFORD THE PAY THE RENT OR FOR HEALTHY MEALS, CANNOT PAY FOR YOUTH ACTIVITIE CHILDREN AND CANNOT AFFORD HEALTHCARE BILLS.

A LOT OF THE ISSUES CAN BE MITIGATED BY HOW MUCH OF THE WORKING FAMILY PAYCHECK GO TO RENT AND MORTGAGES.

WE NEED TO LOOK AT WHAT WE CAN DO LOCALLY AND WHAT WE NEED TO ADVOCATE FOR ON THE STATE LEVEL TO BRING DOWN COSTS, LIKE THE COST OF CONSTRUCTION.

AS LONG AS THERE IS A HEAVY DEMAND WILLING TO PAY THE HIGH PRICES FOR THE HOMES WE ARE GOING TO KEEP SEEING THE DISPLACEMENT AND THE RISING COSTS HERE.

I KNOW WE ARE SUPPOSED TO HAVE A STUDY SESS HOUSE SOMETHING I WANT TO SEE IF WE CAN GET AN FROM STAFF ON WHEN WE CAN HAVE THE STUDY SESSION AND GET COUNCIL DIRECTION TO BRING THAT FORWARD AS POSSIBLE.

AND WHEREAS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS OPPORTUNITY TO UNITE ALL CITIZENS IN OUR COMMUNITY TO PREVENT BREAST CANCER DEATHS THROUGH INCREASED EDUCATION AND REGULAR SCREENING.
